Day 28: Inspired By A Pattern- Ikat Tutorial

Hey There Polished People!

For today’s nails I got to try something I’ve been wanting to try for quite some time. I have seen lots of ikat nails, mainly those turquoise and orange/coral ones that everyone seems to recreate, and I’ve always wanted to try them. I have been planning to do these for “Inspired by a pattern day” forever so yayyyy here we go!

How To Get These Nails:

  1. Base coat.Β
  2. Paint your nails with Essence Break Through.IkatTutorialPics (5)
  3. Use ChG White On White to make white plus-sign/cross designs where you want the designs to be.IkatTutorialPics (4)
  4. Use ChG Aquadelic to make smaller plus-sign/crosses over the white. Try to leave more exposed than I did.Β IkatTutorialPics (3)
  5. Using a black striper, make black dashes all around the blue and white crosses in a jagged diamond pattern. Add a few dashes in the middle of the diamond as well.IkatTutorialPics (2)
  6. Apply topcoat (I use Seche Vite) and show your friends!! πŸ™‚IkatTutorialPics (2)

Here’s a quick picture tutorial that you can look at and maybe like pin on Pinterest or share elsewhere? πŸ˜‰

    • Thank you!! I googled ikat before I did these cuz I was like what the heck is ikat anyway?! The word comes from an Indonesian word, mengikat which is a way of dying fabric to get certain designs. It’s similar to tie dying I guess but obviously had a difference effect. I don’t know how to do it on actual fabric or anything, I just read about it online. πŸ™‚ Thanks for reading and commenting!

    • Thank you so much!! I try to remember to take pictures along the way even thought the lighting is bad where I do my nails. It’s fun showing everyone how its done. πŸ™‚

  1. I love them! I think they turned out amazing! They seem fairly simple, too – the final look appears like it would be much more complex than how you achieved them. I don’t think I’ve seen this pattern on nails before!
I like your base color a lot…and your color combo in general!
I see the pattern of a skirt that I own (an ikat print skirt, duh)…and Cynthia sees ghosts, haha. At least she is honest!

    • Hey different strokes for different folks! Haha. Yeah these were so much easier than I thought they were gonna be! And thanks about the color combo and everything. I LOVE that purple. It’s so bright and pretty and definitely purple. πŸ™‚ I bet your skirt is cute!!
