Summer Houndstooth Nails

Hey Everyone,

A design I’ve always loved on people’s nails and never had a stamp for is the houndstooth design. I love that!! It’s kinda checker-y and just so awesome-looking. You can imagine my excitement when I saw that my new stamps had a houndstooth full-nail design!!! 🙂 I really wanted to try a starkly contrasting design, but being that it’s summer I decided to go with slightly less contrasting, bright and summery colors. Tell me what you think!

Summer Houndstooth Nails

How To Get These Nails:

  1. Base coat them bad boys.
  2. Paint your nails with Essie Lights. I used 3 coats.
  3. Apply a coat of Seche Vite and allow to dry thoroughly.
  4. When your nails are dry and hard, use stamp BM 322 and SH Lightening to stamp the design on each nail.
  5. Apply your first coat of top coat extra carefully, only touching each part of the nail once, then apply a thicker final coat, making sure to wrap your tips.
  6. Try not to stare. 😉

I really liked these nails! These Bundle Monster plates work so well. I have said this before, but I like my Red Angel stamps and even my Salon Essentials stamps but the Bundle Monster plates are the best by far. And this particular set, the new 2012 set, is just so full of cute, current designs. I highly recommend them if you are curious about stamping. You get 25 plates with 6 designs each for about 20 bucks. You really cannot go wrong.

Do you like stamping your nails? If you do stamp your nails, do you get a lot of questions and compliments on them? At least around where I live there are Konad kiosks in the malls so a lot of people have seen the plates before but it seems as if almost no one has actually used them. When I’m out and about I never see anyone with nails like mine. Is that the same for you guys? Let me know what you think about that and today’s nails! Thanks for reading and till next time- Happy Polishing!! 😀

  1. So fun! I love the houndstooth stamp, too. I think even in black and white it is just so eye-catching!
I will re-iterate succinctly that I have stamping stuff, just haven’t practiced enough with it yet…pretty sure I even have a houndstooth one! I have not seen Konad kiosks around and I don’t really notice a lot of nail art around IRL.

    • Aaghhhh you’ve gotta get out your konad stuff and give it a go!! If you have trouble you can tweet me and I’ll try to help!! I love houndstooth too and I think black and white with some kind of red accent would look awesome! Just b&w would look cool by itself.

  2. I need to log off from wordpress ahahaha I can’t stop commenting.
I loved the combination of your nails. I’ve tried to use my insta-dri polishes with my plates but it has been impossible.. i just bought that polish on saturday! haha..

    • That’s weird. They work well for me! The best ever though are the konad specials. They’re just hard to find and aren’t very versatile. I mean- you can only use them for stamping. They work perfectly tho.

Hey- stay on as long as you like! I love getting off work and having a bunch of comments! 😀

      • i was at work ahahah!
maybe my insta-dri are too old..

i can’t get good polishes here, opi and sally hansen are the “best” i can get here.. there are few shops that sells china glaze, but it cost 9 dollars. is it expensive? how much does CG cost there?

        • Wow! China Glaze costs anywhere between 3-7 dollars here. I get mine for 5. Idk what I’d do if I couldn’t get good polishes here- I guess I’d get a lot of packages from amazon! Haha. You could try adding a little thinner (not remover) to your SH Insta-Dris. IF you’ve even been able to get thinner. :-/

    • Definitely get some bundle monster stamps OR if you have extra money Konad but I don’t have any of those. Depending on what designs you want (basics like leopard print, zebra, fishnet etc or the newer designs you’re seeing like owls, houndstooth, etc) you’ll either wanna get the older 25 plate set ( basics) or the new 2012 25 plate set (owls, etc). They’re both awesome and only cost around 20 bucks. You’ll need a (pink, konad brand) scraper and stamper too and the will probably run you about another 5 bucks on amazon. Then you can either buy konad special polishes or try polishes you have at home. 😀 You’ll love stamping your nails!!

  3. I like the combination of colors and how the yellow changed a bit once you stamped it on the other color. I think this pattern is bigger than the konad one, and I like both. I have never in my life seen konad kiosks and rarely see elaborate nail art in real life which sucks.

    • Yeah its interesting cuz once in a blue moon someone at Sally’s or ulta will have some of those press on nails or the SH strips but no one ever has nails like me. What the heck??

I liked how the yellow changed a little too. It still showed up but got a little pink flavor making it slightly orangish. I probably would have liked it to stay fully yellow but it looks good how it turned out, too. 🙂 Thanks. 🙂

    • Thanks! Yeah you’ve got to get some! They’re so nice. I’ve had a couple weird plates with this set but their customer service is stellar so it always gets resolved. Yay for that cuz I LOVE their plates!!! 🙂

  4. I love stamping! And like you I never see anyone with nails like mine, when I’m out. And the people always ask me: Is the mani make in a salon? 😉

    • Awesome! Yeah, people always are shocked I do it myself too. 🙂 And they often think my nails are fake- which I love. 😀 Thanks for reading and commenting!!

    • I purchased my latest set from Bundlemonster.com but you can also find them on Amazon, which is where I got my first set. Make sure to check retailmenot.com before you order to see if there are any discount codes. I never buy anything online without checking that site first. 🙂
