Grey and Neon Dot Nails using LA Girls Polka Dot Nail Kit :)

Good Morning Polished People!

EDIT: I just joined this post up with lots of other ladies’ posts for the Geometry Polish Days blog event. 🙂 This is my first time so I hope all the links work properly!! Carry on…

While I was on vacation, I was at a Fred Meyer in Idaho grabbing some groceries for the cabin, and “accidentally” perusing the polishes when I saw that some of the drugstore brands like Essence and LA Girls have some new nail art materials out there. There are a few stamping plates with the stamper and scraper included, they have lots of top coats from crackle to chunky glitter, and then they have the thing I was most excited for… a dotting tool!! I got a LA Girls double ended dotting tool and three mini polishes for $4.99 and that was the regular price so when it goes on sale it will be even cheaper!! The dotting tool is perfect, the polishes were cute colors (orange, pink and green)… it’s the best deal ever!! 😀 I know you can buy like 4-5 dotting tools online for like 8-10 bucks, but how convenient is it to just run to Freddy’s (for those of you with Fred Meyers’) and grab a dotting tool? I love it!! I totally recommend this kit. Stay tuned one of these days for a review of Essence’s chunky glitter topper- Mr and Mrs Glitter. 🙂 Till then let’s see today’s nails, shall we?

Grey and Neon Dot Nails

How To Get These Nails:

  1. Base coat.
  2. Paint your nails with ChG Elephant Walk (2-3 coats).
  3. Apply a coat of Seche Vite and allow to dry thoroughly.
  4. Use the small end of the LA Girls Dotting Tool and apply dots in the orange, green and pink unnamed polish that comes with the kit in any design you choose. I picked a bit of a chevron design.
  5. Allow the dots to dry a little, then apply a final coat of Seche Vite.
  6. Show your friends!! 🙂

I’m so happy I finally got a dotting tool. Sure you can use a pin, or a toothpick, or the pointy end of a cuticle pusher… I’ve used all those, but nothing is quite as uniform or easy to use as an actual dotting tool. 🙂 You’ll see plenty of dotticures in the future from me, including but not limited to during the 31 day challenge I’m participating in with a few other bloggers. We start the 10th of this month. 🙂

Don’t forget to click here to sign up to win a Julep Maven Box… only a couple of days left to go!! And sign up through Cynthia’s blog by clicking here as well, double the chances of winning… this just might be your time to win! 😀

Let me know what you think of these nails and of all the brands coming out with more exciting nail stuff! I’m hyped! 🙂 As always, thank you all for reading and till next time- Happy Polishing!!

  1. I am kind of delirious right now because of all the issues with my blog tonight, but I think it’s hilarious that we both uploaded some sort of dot nail art. lol And I literally just got a comment alert with you basically saying the same thing. We are like mani twins!

I got a dotting tool set on ebay for like 5 bucks and I think there were 5 or 6 double ended tools with different sized tips. If you’re looking for different ones, I recommend you check ebay–they are pretty good. 🙂

As far as this look, me likey. I love the bright colors over elephant walk. I wish we had Fred Meyers…cause I want those different essence products!!!

    • I don’t think I need any more dotting tools but if I do- I’ll check em out. Thanks!! 🙂 We totally have ESP… As I read your post I was like well, don’t we just think w the same mind! Haha. Sorry bout all your blog trouble tho. If you get back to me about the challenge maybe we can have more twin nails in the future 😉 I’m only half serious- get back to me when you can. I know you have a LITTLE BIT OF STUFF going on right now. 🙂 Actually- I’m remembering you did get back to me about in/out so I’ll email you tomorrow. 🙂 good luck w the host gator business *fingers crossed!*

    • We do stuff like this kinds regularly it seems. Must be on the same wavelength. 🙂 Thanks Amanda!! I loved my grey w neon stripe nails so I thought- why not dots? 🙂

  2. ohhh i love this dotting manicure..!!!! IDK what’s about grey polish as a background that I love so much!!

so nice you’re into a challenge, that’s why you couldn’t participate on the one i suggested.. we’re waiting for one of the girls to buy her plates..! i ordered last week my dotting tools along brushes, i bought a set on bundlemonster.com . oh God help me, i can’t stop spending money on nail stuff..

    • Thanks! I love grey as a background too. And yep- this is the one that I was planning to do that kept me from yours. 😦 We are only doing ours every 3 days tho so when you decide exactly when, tweet me and maybe I’ll still do that one. I want to participate in allll of the challenges. 🙂 And regarding not being able to stop blowing money on nail stuff- welcome to the club! 🙂

  3. Oh, dotticures, how I love you…you are the one nail art technique that I can readily achieve!
I used to use toothpicks, but got a double-ended set of I think five tools off of Ebay like Cynthia.
    31-day challenge…wow! I can do like a weekly challenge…;P

    • Thank you! I didn’t think I was in time for the geometric polish day but luckily I guess I just made it in under the deadline! Thanks for setting that all up for everyone. 🙂

  4. YAY! You made it! *throws Ritz Crackers in the air*
I thought this is your 2nd time participating in Polish Days? I could be confused (Miss Forgetful). I’m liking the soft subtle look of this mani, created with a nice choice of colour combination.

    • Hahahaha I love your ritz cracker confetti! 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion about using this mani for polish days. I don’t think I’ve done it before because although I get the email, I always thought it would be too difficult to figure out or something. Well, clearly it’s simple (as long as I’m not doing anything wrong- like should I have links at the bottom of my post, too?) so hopefully I’ll be able to do them in the future as well. Hannah’s got it set up so perfect there’s just no reason not to participate. 🙂 Thanks again!!

    • Thank you! After I did my grey with neon stripe nails I have since been in love with grey as a background 🙂 Dotting is my new favorite technique because I don’t have a very steady hand and luckily for me- with dotting you don’t really need one!! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the comment! 😀
