Hey There Polished People!
Today we are all doing splatter paint manis at Mae’s request. 🙂 She picked splatter as today’s theme because she hates us and wanted to punish us. Nah, I’m just kidding but splatter manis are one of those things that, to me at least, are not hard to do, but definitely hard to do well. The idea behind a splatter mani is that you paint your nails a base color, then use a little coffee stir-straw to blow paint splatters all over the base color giving it an avant garde look of which Jackson Pollock would be proud. My actual experience of a splatter mani is that I un-artfully fling paint all over my nails and hands and table and dog, and then look at my nails and go “hmm, what a mess.” Even though splatter manis are not in my wheelhouse, so to speak, I still ended up with some splatter nails. Let’s see em!
Grey, Black & Silver Splatter Nails
Didn’t these nails come out so evenly and perfectly grungy but still balanced?!! I just had the magic touch with the splattering today I guess.
JUST KIDDING! I used a stamp. I know, I know, I’m such a cheater. Especially since I have less time to be doing my nails, I just couldn’t bear to take the time to splatter them and then hate them. I blame Madeline (my 1-year-old). To get these nails I first painted my nails with Morgan Taylor Who-Dini? (a really pretty blue-leaning grey, I’ll post some pics on Facebook) then stamped them with Konad black and BM416. After I stamped all my nails, I stamped them all again, using BM416 upside down, and Essie No Place Like Chrome. Then I topped them all with Seche Vite, cleaned up my cuticles and called it macaroni.
I actually really like how these turned out. The grey and black and silver and the splatter style really takes me back to the grunge style of the nineties and I feel like I should find some old flannels and overalls. Maybe listen to some Nirvana. Do you know they play Nirvana on the soft rock stations now!!?? What a shame.

Do these look kinda 90s grunge to you? How did you like them overall? Let me know what you think in the comments below. I really enjoy reading everyone’s comments so, as always, thanks so much for reading and commenting. Till next time- Happy Polishing!!!
I don’t blame you for using a stamp, I still can’t get this technique down!
Its nice to know im not the only one! 🙂
Here is a great HOW TO video by ‘nail artist to the stars’ Tom Bachik….he explains how to do it in a short but effective video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P46JQFimxOM
Yup thats how i do it!
How dare you blame Madeline for cheating. :p
I do like how these came out. I like the base color and the stamps are complimentary. I’ll buy you those overalls I saw at Target the other day to match. 😉
This came out great. It almost looks like a marble effect. You picked great colors for this mani.
Thank you! Glad my cheater mani worked out.
Haha….I recognized that stamp pretty quick…..I just got that plate set with their Black Friday deal. Love the colors you used. =)
Thanks! I love bundle monster’s plates. I think i have almost all of their sets and the case for them all. I didn’t get any on black friday though…. That was dumb of me! Could have got my last missing set!
Rocker, punk and cool
