Hey There Polished People!
In the US, July 4th is Independence Day! Lots of people celebrate by having BBQs and spending time with family, capping the night off with fireworks. I am a fan of fireworks, except for the “million angry hornet” type fireworks that shoot up in the air all willy nilly and you never quite feel like you know where they’re going to go. I love the “mortar shells” that shoot way up in the air and blow up. They’re illegal in my state though so let’s just say I’m speaking hypothetically. π We usually celebrate the 4th at my aunt’s house and my whole family gets together and we eat and light fireworks, but this year my husband and I are going out to his parents and are having a fireworks-less BBQ with his family. I’m sure it will be fun, but I will miss the fireworks. The only thing I don’t like about the Fourth is (well I guess there are two things-) people who are careless with fireworks, and the fact that people seem to feel the need to celebrate for an entire week before and about the same amount of time after the actual holiday. Some rude neighbors of my parents already nearly gave me a heart attack yesterday when they blew up what sounded like a gigantic bomb in the street right in front of their house while I was over there, and my neighbors have been blowing moderately sized fireworks up the last few nights, giving my poor little dog, Minnie, fits. She gets so scared and there’s just nothing to console her. Anyway, I hope you all have a fun and safe 4th if you live in the US! Let’s get to today’s festive nails!
American Tie Dye Nails
How To Get These Nails:
- Base coat.
- Paint your nails with one medium coat of NUP French White.
- Immediately following the white polish, work with one nail at a time and follow the following directions.
- Apply a thick dot of blue polish (FP Inkblot Blue) in a half-moon shape at your cuticle.
- Quickly apply a thick half circle of white (NUP French White) touching the blue polish.
- Quickly apply a thick half circle of red (OPI Big Apply Red) from the white to the end of the nail, don’t forget to wrap your tips with this color.
- Grab a needle very quickly and drag 4-5 times from the blue out through the red. I hold my needle at a shallow angle to the polish, to maximize surface tension between the needle and the polish in effort to drag more of the polish out. You will work out your own method.
- Repeat steps 4-7 on the rest of your nails.
- When all your nails are done, apply a coat of Seche Vite and call it good! Impress your friends with your patriotically awesome nails! π Ali (@ShoppingShon) on Twitter said these look like popsicles, and I agree! They remind me of those Rocket Pop popsicles that the ice cream man sells.
I hope you all liked these nails as much as I did. My husband was particularly impressed and said a few times how he liked these nails. That’s a big deal because usually he really couldn’t care less about nails π Have a safe 4th and if you decide to try this method, tweet me a pic! As always, thank you all for reading and till next time- Happy Polishing!! π
YAAAAYy.. ii’m afraid i wouldn’t be able to do these nails.. i’ve tried to do needle marbling and it was the biggest pain in the butt.
i hate fireworks.. i’m as afraid as Bella is.. i think they’re only beautiful if they’re far away.. FAR away. FAR FAR FAR away. in november we have a lot of national holidays (november 3rd separation from Colombia, november 4th national flag day, november 5th Colon day, nov 10th independence yelling, nov 28th independence from spain) and they never have fireworks.. fireworks are for xmas, new year and carnival only..
When I was little I was terrified of fireworks, and I’m still not totally unafraid but I’m not too bad. I actually remember you telling me about that last year- all the November holidays. We really only do fireworks here on the fourth and a little on New Years. Never Christmas so that’s interesting. Sometimes I wonder, who ever thought, “I know how we’ll celebrate- let’s shoot things in the sky and blow them up!!” ??
i really love this! ive been meaning to try tie die effect nail art for the longest! and i totally get what u mean about hubs liking the nails LOL my hubs is the same way so when he compliments them im overjoyed LOL
Yeah my husband thinks they’re nice and all but he would really rather be watching tv or reading sports stuff online or just about anything I’m sure. π Thanks for the compliment! π
These came out awesome! Happy 4th π
Thank you! I hope you had a good one, too! I’m a little slow on the replies as you can see. Oops!
Those look awesome! Kind of reminds me of fireworks too. As for your poor dog, have you ever tried Thundershirts? they supposedly work very well at reducing anxiety in dogs.
Thanks! They do look a little starbursty like fireworks, huh? π I should try one of those. She just mostly hates clothes so I’m anticipating that it won’t do a thing for her. But I’ll look into that cuz if itd make her feel a little better that would be nice.
They do look like rocket pops, but I still think these look kinda of cape-y…like a patriotic Batman cape. I guess it’s just me. I’m doing nothing for the 4th…just staying home and playing with nail polish. That’s the life…the sad life? Since I work tomorrow, it’s not like I can stay up late and watch fireworks. I’m usually in bed before the sun goes down so whatevs. My life sucks. Does Bubba get scared too?
I think you just like claws and capes. π I see the cape reference tho! I had to work the next day too, so we didn’t really do anything exciting either. Just had dinner w Daniel’s parents and hung out.
It’s funny about Bubba because he scares the crap out of himself if his tails wags against something and makes a noise (weirdo) but fireworks really don’t even phase him. If he was outside w them in the street I’m sure he’d be scared but while he’s inside it’s like he grew up in a war zone. Go figure. ;p
HOT DAMN I LOVE THIS
Aww thanks!!! Maybe I’m coming out of my slump!
Aw poor Minnie π¦ My little ones were on high alert whenever they heard fireworks this past week…
Beautiful mani, Nicole! Loving your tie-dye manis!
Yes these poor little dogs have a hard time with the fireworks. Good thing it’s only one holiday a year. π And thanks for the compliment! I have been enjoying doing them, although I better give em a break so I don’t overload everyone!
I didnt get to see fireworks this yr. Wahhh! But your nails are the cutest! So bright n festive π
I didn’t either! We were such party poopers, but oh well. Glad you liked my nails! Thank you! π
I thought I had commented on this…I know I read your post. Maybe I read it in email only, but forgot to comment. That happens when I read stuff on my phone when I’m still in bed. I could be making all this up though. I’m still sick…so yea. I do like these, I can’t remember what I originally wanted to say. I’m all sweaty now.
mmm rocket pops.
Well the good thing about me waiting 4,000 years to respond is that you should be better by now, right?? I sure hope so.
These are amazing!!
Thank you!! I have to be honest, I did kind of love these! π
The teacher in you is showing herself in this tutorial, Nicole. “Follow the following directions?” “Shallow angle?” “Maximizing surface tension?” π
These TOTALLY DO look like those rocket popsicles! Rocket popsicle nails! π And how cute is it that Daniel liked them? AWWW!!!
I didn’t get to see fireworks this year, either, but I didn’t miss them too much. They weren’t part of the holiday for me until I moved to CA, so I have no real memories associated with them. They’re nice and all, but usually not worth the crowds and hassle to me.
I had to work the next day, too, but I still had a nice time on the 4th. π
I am lucky that I have not had a dog that freaks out about fireworks. My best friend’s mom and stepdad have a Thundershirt for their Jack Russell…watching them put it on him and his reaction literally had me in tears. He was just standing there like catatonic. So, they do work…but they’re a little expensive.
Maybe I’ll give them a try sometime. I just feel so bad for her! She gets so freaked and just loses her mind!
I agree w you on the crowds, I wouldn’t really want to go be elbow to elbow w everyone just to see some fireworks. I don’t like crowds all that much. And- oops on letting my teacher side come out! π You caught me!
I absolutely loved these ! I really need to try this type of mani! stunning as always !!!!
You should totally give it a go, it’s surprisingly easy, just don’t be afraid of too thick of polish. π
