How To Save Bubbled Up Nails

I hope you all had a nice weekend. Here in ‘Murica it was Memorial Day yesterday so everyone either went camping or flocked to their backyards or to local parks and grilled up some burgers, hot dogs, steaks, chicken, etc. My husband and I went camping and we actually had pretty nice weather!! That’s kind of a shocker for our area at this time of year but hey- I’m not gonna complain about good weather! 😉

My older post about bubbles in your nail polish gets a lot of traffic, so when my nail polish bubbled up like crazy last time I set out to find a way to fix it that didn’t involve starting over or adding another layer of polish to cover the bubbles. Luckily for me, because I really liked the nails I had done, I seemed to find a pretty successful way of fixing them. 😀 Let’s see how this all went down…

Reverse Glitter Gradient Nails (with bubbles)

You may need to click on these nails to fully appreciate the bubbly badness. They’re mostly localized where the glitter is thickest near the cuticle. They are baaaad. I did these nails by applying a couple/few coats of Nuance Evening Haze, a VERY pretty greige-y color that I received from Lesley for my bday (THANK YOU!!), then I put some drops of Spoiled Jewelry Heist, another super pretty polish I got from Lesley (THANK YOU, AGAIN!!!), on a piece of foil and used a makeup sponge to dab the glitter on near the cuticle. I ended up doing a lot of dabbing and as you can see, all that dabbing gave me a billion bubbles so when I applied my Jessica Brilliance topcoat the bubbles got trapped and absolutely RUINED my nails! 😦

With ruined nails and work the next day, what was I supposed to do???  The bubbles were SO bad, I couldn’t just leave them. I didn’t have time to completely redo them and quite honestly it was late and I didn’t even want to take them off and just paint my nails a plain color. Plus, how much fun would that be? Scarcely any, that’s how much. So what I did was as follows: I dipped my clean up brush in my acetone, and VERY LIGHTLY painted over the bubbles with the acetone-saturated brush. I kept re-dipping and re-painting over the bubbles super lightly until the bubbles were melted away. It’s really important if you try this to have a super light touch, because you only want to melt the bubbles, you don’t want to eat through the colored polish itself. Once I was satisfied that all the bubbles were gone, or once I felt like I’d gotten as many out as I can without ruining the polish beneath the bubbles, I let the polish dry completely again, and then added a thick coat of Jessica Brilliance. This might not work for everyone, but it worked well for me. If you don’t use multiple coats of polish, or if your topcoat is really thin maybe it wont work as well, but if the alternative is bubbly polish, I’d still give it a try! 🙂 Ready to see how my nails turned out?

I think bubbles in nail polish is a problem we all have from time to time. Like I mentioned in my previous post on this topic, there are many reasons it can happen, but at least now I’ll have something to try and maybe some of you will give it a try, too. 🙂 Let me know what you do about bubbles in the comments below.
