Just in case you haven’t been told already, I have a personal announcement to make:

Yep, that’s correct! This nail lady is PREGNANT!!! My husband and I are very excited, as are our families because this will be both of our parents’ first grandchild.  I am just through my first trimester at 13 weeks 4 days (to be exact) and am feeling good. To celebrate my official blog announcement me and a few of my favorite blogger/twitter friends are all doing baby nails today. Please make sure to check out their baby themed nails, after you look at mine, of course. 😉

Baby Nails

I decided to go with some half and half girl/boy nails since we don't know the sex yet. The pink side has butterflies on it, and the blue side has little cowboy silhouettes.

I decided to go with some half and half girl/boy nails since we don’t know the sex yet. The pink side has butterflies on it, and the blue side has little cowboy silhouettes.

How To Get These Nails:

  1. Base coat.
  2. Paint your nails half and half with OPI Pink Friday (pink) and CC Mrs. Robinson (blue). I freehanded my center line but you could certainly start with one color, tape it off and then paint the other.
  3. Apply a coat of quick dry top coat (I have been using Jessica Brilliance since becoming pg) and let your nails dry thoroughly.
  4. When your nails are hard and no longer squishable, use a piece of tape or a sticky note to tape off the pink side of your nails and use CH 34 and Konad special white polish to stamp the cowboy silhouette on the blue side.
  5. When you’re done stamping the blue sides, use a piece of tape that you’ve stuck to your hand a few times (to remove the stickiness) or a sticky note to tape off the blue side that you just stamped exposing the pink side. Use BM 307 and Konad special white to stamp the butterflies on the pink side.
  6. Remove the tape/sticky note and use the Konad polish and a dotting tool to make the dots down the center.
  7. Give your dots a second to dry, then apply a final coat of Jessica Brilliance. Enjoy your cute baby nails! 🙂

I thought it might be fun to have a little poll and see if we’re correct in a couple of months (we should find out mid-May) whether it’s a boy or a girl. I’ll list some symptoms that may/may not give anyone a clue, then you can decide what you think I’ll be having. I know Frosso was looking forward to it being a unicorn, but from the ultrasound we have already seen its little baby shape. 🙂

Boy Or Girl?

  • no morning sickness
  • have gained 2-3 lbs so far
  • not showing much yet, but looking a little poochy in the top of my belly
  • skin changes- more pimples 😦
  • mood swings just in the last week
  • tired

I think most of those are just regular pregnancy symptoms, but some people have told me certain things are supposed to tell you what you’re having… anyway- time to weigh in!

    should do more baby manis since you've got the skillzzzzz. I'm enjoying seeing what everyone came up with. I'm having "duh" moments each time since I couldn't think of anything other than what I came up with. I'll do a better one once we find out its a unicorn.

      • I’m pretty such unicorns are just born in a cloud of glitter and the horn magically appears afterwards 😉 I bet Frosso’s future baby is going to be a unicorn, mine will just be normal. :p

    • You were almost very stubborn there, weren’t you?? Sheesh!! I feel like I’m having a lot of “duh” moments too, because everyone’s nails are so great. Like HELLO YELLOW!! Why didn’t I think of that?? Mine are not way better than yours… I really think we all did a super great job with these. I was even more impressed than I anticipated because I just didn’t have any clue what this theme would entail in the beginning. We are all such geniuses :p

  4. These nails are so adorable! I’ve heard if you carry high, get acne, and crave sweets, it is a girl. I played with a couple of predictor charts (http://www.parents.com/pregnancy/my-baby/gender-prediction/boy-or-girl-ancient-chinese-birth-chart/?ordersrc=google013chinesegenderlow&s_kwcid=TC|6870|chinese%20gender%20baby||S|b|12620599978) and (http://www.babycenter.com/chinese-gender-predictor) when I was pregnant and they ended up being correct. I never had any morning sickness and carried high with a girl, but you could be totally different.

    • Hmm those are really interesting! We’ll see how it turns out here in just about 7 weeks! 🙂 I like looking at all the predictors and hearing what people have heard, old wives tales and all, just cuz it’s so entertaining. Thanks about the nails!! 🙂

  7. OMG!!! *falls over* OF COURSE yours are AMAZING! But they should be…you’re the mama! 😉 My favorite part are the stamped designs…the butterflys and the cowboys. So cute!
    I usually have a strong guess as to what people will be having, but I’m having a hard time with this! I need to marinate on it so that I can take the poll, hahaha.
    Today has been so fun, seeing everyone’s nails! Well, I’ve seen Siobhan’s, Frosso’s, and yours…I need to get mine up on the Twitter machine, and then I look forward to seeing Cynthia’s and Jessica’s. I hope we can do it again for the end of the second trimester!

    • Thank you!! I seriously loved EVERYONE’s!! I don’t know what I expected, I mean everyone’s nails are always nice, but they all just really blew me away this time. I love them! I was thinking about maybe when I find out the sex, maybe we could do some reveal nails- like not tell anyone on FB,Twitter, IG, blog, etc and then I’ll just tell you guys and we can all do SUPRISE!! boy/girl nails and announce it that way. I’m not sure everyone will want to do baby nails AGAIN in like 2 months, but if everyone is interested I thought that might be kinda fun. Just an idea. 🙂

  8. Awe, how fun that we get to follow along and retain excitement with you by “playing along.” Just like a teacher, but lets go! I’m gonna say that your having a little “sugar & spice & everything nice.” I’ve only had boys and I didn’t have any of the symptoms listed. I absolutely love your nails & the design is beautiful. Love the pink butterflies & blue cowboys! Brilliant.

I knew you had one son at least (the one who had his gauge ear piercings fixed a while back) but how many kids do you have?

    also, you can hang around babies, if if a baby boy and he wants to hug your belly, is a girl.. (weird stuff people says in latinoamerica)..

  16. Nicole, I LOVE this! I know I always say that (but it’s true) and I know I’ve said it to everyone else’s baby mani but it IS true! I ADORE the blue you used and how each side is a different stamp (is it hard to do that btw?) And then the polkas bring it together!

    • Thanks!! I loved everyone’s too! I am so impressed with everyone’s slightly different interpretation but how they all work perfectly! The stamping two different sides isn’t hard at all, just tape off the side you don’t want with something not too sticky and ta-daaa! Done. 🙂

  19. CONGRATULATIONS! I’m sure whichever the gender of your little bun of happiness is they’ll be a great addition to the family. I did vote girl, though, because I can just see her constantly begging you to do her nails xD

    That manicure is GORGEOUS. I normally don’t like pink (I was a strange girl xD) but it’s so cute here =D the cowboys and butterflies are so inspired ^.^

    I’ll have to try a sticky note next time I do a sharp line – Even my cheapest scotch tape ran over my skin a few times has a tendency to whack off a few chips -.- Nothing that can’t be filled in with a dotting tool but still annoying.

    And no worries with the timing. I’m terrible at keeping my blog updated because I never feel like logging onto a PC long enough to crop/watermark the photos! My camera at one point had three posts worth of pictures on it and every day it’d look at me and go “What gives?!”
    It’s your blog, though, so you update whenever you dag-gum feel like it! 🙂

    • I always tell myself, “It’s my blog, so don’t ever apologize for not posting when life gets in the way” but then I do feel a little bad when it’s so sporadic. It is what it is tho, y’know. 🙂 Thank you for the well wishes and compliments! The sticky note really only works for stamping tho, since it doesn’t provide a super tight seal. If your tape is pulling up your polish, try using a quick dry topcoat if you don’t already and sometimes I even wait to tape off and add to my nails. I don’t know anything more annoying then doing your nails all pretty then having them get messed up! 😦

Maybe now that I have a big girl phone (or rather will when I get home from work – thats right, still not here, end rant) I can participate in the shenanigans and fun things like this 🙂 Super excited for you and your husband!
