Polish Us Pink! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hey Everyone,

As many of you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I’m sure everyone knows someone who has fought or is fighting this disease. In order to show solidarity and support for Breast Cancer survivors and their families many bloggers are participating in Polish Us Pink. We will be painting our nails pink every Monday in October. If you’d like to participate please click on this link to go to The Subtle Shimmer and read about our inspiration, who helped come up with the idea, etc. Many many people are affected by this so if you’d like to participate you can do so by clicking that link and getting the InLinkz code to embed in your post. Als0, you can participate on Instagram by using the hashtag #PolishUsPink

Day 1 of BCA 2012 Nails

How To Get These Nails:

  1. Base coat. For my newly nubbed nails I used Essie Feed Me.
  2. Paint your nails with Jessica Secret Love. I used 2 coat and really only needed one had I been more careful.
  3. Using OPI Pink Friday, paint a pink ribbon on the accent nail and add the dots on the rest of the nails.
  4. Use a white striper or a tiny paintbrush and white polish to outline the ribbon, giving it a heart middle.
  5. Apply your top coat (Seche Vite for me!) carefully and post it on Instagram using #PolishUsPink πŸ™‚

  1. Is that what they say? πŸ˜‰
Pretty mani! I like that Jessica Color, although now I am going to have “Secret Lovers” in my head.

    • I know!! ME TOO! I had to keep myself from typing that out! haha. And yes- squish those boobs around in a clockwise (or is it counter clockwise? I better check one of those sites) motion for your self exam! You could save your own life. I love that Jessica color too. Can you believe I got it at Marshall’s along w 4 other polishes for $3.99?! I gotta do a review post for those.

      Oh, and THANK YOU! πŸ˜€

  2. i’ll be joining it.. but i think that this month you’ll see a lot of blue on my blog. my dad had prostate cancer last year and he finished his radiotherapy this year.. so he’s a fighter and i’m trying to get my nails done in blue, just to encourage him !!

but pink will be great too..
if you want, you can search on instagram and twitter the hashtag: #YoLucho (which means I fight) and people is sharing pictures of people that is battling against cancer in Panama and for every picture shared on this hashtag a bank will give $1 to fundacancer (who helps people without money to get their treatment)

    • Wow. I’m sorry to hear about you dad. How is he doing? Did the radiation help him? I sure hope so. Also- is the YoLucho tag for all kinds of cancers or just prostate? And are there any rules for the pictures… I’d like to participate in some way if I can. I had a brother who died of a cancerous tumor on his kidney and my mom has a (thankfully non-metastasizing) skin cancer. Tell me a little more if you could please. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your nails!

      • i’m sorry to hear about your brother! 😦 my mum had skin cancer too, she had a tumor removed from her face 16 years ago.
my dad is doing fine now, his cancer was very agressive and he’s still in pain, but doctors told us that is normal to have some pain at least for 6 months after the radiation, so we are not worrying about it..
last week my mum did her mammography and doctors found a mass on one of her breasts, so she’s having a biopsy this week.
That’s the way cancer is.. i just hate this disease..!

YoLucho doesn’t have any rule, you only have to post a picture using the hashtag and the way you fight against it.. I posted on instagram the pictures of the last day of therapy of my dad quoting that that was his last day and now he’s doing fine!

        thanks for supporting the cause..!

  3. This is such a pretty mani. I was going to participate in this but ended up being completely out of it the day it started so I didn’t do anything. BCA is super important to me because I lost my aunt (she was also my godmother) to breast cancer. She passed in 1999 and I think our whole family still feel like it was yesterday. She was such a wonderful woman with an amazing way of bringing everyone together.
I’m super sorry to hear that you lost your brother to cancer. It’s such a shit disease that I hope one day we can cure.

    • Thank you. Cancer is terrible and just can manifest itself in all these weird ways. People have a pain in their knee, go in to the doctor and boom are dead in 2 months from cancer. It’s a horrible disease for sure. I’m sorry to hear about your aunt. My brother was older than me and I never even got to meet him but we have lots of pictures of course and I just can’t imagine how sad that must have been for my parents. Maybe you can participate another day if you feel up to it. πŸ™‚
