I’m With The Lifeguard. Wait… you, too?!

I guess I’m on a swatch kick… here we are with three days in a row of swatches! Well, Alexandra’s guest post was fun and exciting but my own swatches bore me a bit. Is that going to stop me from posting this one though? NOPE! Why? Cuz I like it!!! 😀 And you’re gonna like it, too. Let’s see if I’m right-

China Glaze I’m With The Lifeguard

Color:

I’m With The Lifeguard is a neon green shimmer polish. Now, what’s the difference between a shimmer (yay) and a frost (barf), you may ask? Well, I don’t know. But I’m pretty sure it’s called a shimmer if you like it (yay) and a frost if you don’t (barf). This my friends, is ashimmer!;) And it’s super super bright! The shimmer just adds some extra brightness and look beautiful in the sun, as you can see 😀

Formula/Application:

This formula is a dreammmm!!!! My other neon green, Kiwi Coolada, is a little streaky but this is perfect. What you see above is three thin coats over a white base. You could probably do 2 coats, but 3 is how I like it. 🙂

Yes, Please! or No, Thank You:

A lot of people are like g0-crazy, scream-out-loud, over-the-moon crazy-happy with this polish and I like it but I’m not THAT hyped over it. I’m With The Lifeguard is really pretty, it’s a Yes, Please! but I would probably rather have just a regular nicely formulated green neon. I’m not gonna lie, the shimmer/frost issue gives me a bit of a complex and puts a little hiccup in my yes please.

Do you have any of the China Glaze Summer Neons? Which is your favorite so far? Do you like this? Do you think it’s a frost or a shimmer or are they the same?         • This is the only one I have, but I kind of want Hang Ten Toes because I don’t have a good NEON pink, just a good HOT pink. I don’t know if that’ll fit the bill tho so I just haven’t picked it up. :-/ I’m very picky about my neons. If it doesn’t cause planes to attempt to land in your backyard, I don’t have any use for it.

  2. The title and your addition is hysterical. Frosted? gag, gag, barf. It’s ugly, so, so old fashioned and I love vintage everything else. Frosting came out when I was a little girl. All the ladies you get their hair “done” on Fridays and get manicures. Then all of a sudden everyone was frosted. I think frosted might be a little different from shimmer if shimmer has little sparkles like Butter London’s All Hail The Queen for example. But leave me alone with frosted?@#?$!!%??!

    • Good I’m glad there’s a difference cuz I was having an issue! Haha. I don’t really know of anyone who likes frosted nail polish. Why do they even still make it?? Yuck. I hope that’s a trend that does not come back. That, and super low-rise buttcrack and/or thong revealing pants. I was guilty of partaking in one of the trends (not necessarily on purpose) but not the other, thank god. I plead the fifth on which one it was. ;p

  4. Great post. I, for one, love swatches of current polish releases. Not so crazy about swatches of older, unavailable polishes. In my mind, a frost finish kind of sits on top and diffuses or even obscures the color, while a shimmer lays deeper and enhances the color.

    • Ahhh that makes sense!!! Thanks for that tidbit! And thanks for the compliment as well 🙂 I don’t really ever buy polish anywhere special (I just run into Sally’s or Ulta or Rite Aid and grab what they have) so most of my swatches should be fairly easy to find. I hate seeing polish I want so bad but it’s like “If you want this, prepare to spend 30 bucks on eBay!” Uh, hell to the no. I am crazy about nails but I try to be crazy within reason. 😉 Are you into neons?

      • I really love all colors for polish. From subtle to loud, it’s all good. Now, the colors I wear I am more choosy about. Has to go with cat hair, muddy dog paws and red wine stains!

        • Haha… now I’m trying to think what colors those might be! :p How many dogs and cats do you have? I have 2 dogs, and some fish. Well, the fish are my husband’s technically (HE wanted a fish tank!) but now I kinda like them too and am the fish whisperer. 😉

          • Colors to go with 6 yr old black and white Chinese crested powderpuff, 1 year old shitzu mix from the shelter, and 20 year old longhaired grey cat and the resulting marks they deposit include green, grey, black, dark blue, dark purple, khaki, and plaid. As far as red wine traces, a denim shirt to throw over whatever looks messy! I envy your fish prowess! I couldn’t even keep the goldfish alive when my daughter brought it home from college….

            • Ahhh now I see! 🙂 Fish are kinda funny- if you can get the tank cycled and going on it’s own, they’re pretty hard to kill. However, that first month is kinda rough. They’re fun though, more of a decoration than a pet, but still cool. 🙂 Your dogs sound cute. Both of mine are from shelters. 🙂

    • I resisted it, too, at first and then for some reason when I was looking for the perfect first-day-of-work nail polish I was like “I have GOT to get that I’m With The Lifeguard green!” And so I did. 😉

    I don’t have any of the ChG summer neons. I like it, but don’t need it. I would say more shimmer than frost…I think the shimmer just looks a bit different because neons are usually kind of matte. Frost is generally no bueno. Does it look like the 80s? Then it’s a frost!

    • The ironic thing is that aren’t neons an 80s trend….? Haha. So maybe it is!! And you’re right, neons generally do dry matte so that could be a bit of a difference too. I think the more everyone tells me about shimmers/frost the more I’m agreeing that it’s definitely a shimmer. You said you like it but don’t need it… what’s your favorite kind of nail polish to wear?

      • Uuuhhh….I am not sure I can answer that!!!
        I just get a little frustrated with neons because I don’t like how they dry matte. I know topcoat can resolve that for the most part, but it just kinda bugs me…I dunno, OCD or something! So I don’t “need” to run out for a neon because of that. Also, I like green, but it generally doesn’t look good on me!

        • Haha ok I see, you’re too neurotic for neons!! Jk. I get that- I have lots of things I just don’t like either that turn me off to certain things. 🙂 I’m just lucky I don’t care too much how colors look on me… I guess that’s unlucky for the people around me! :p

  7. I was really hesitant to get this one because I figured it would look disgusting on me. It’s really pretty on you. I really like that so many neons have shimmer–makes them more interesting. I have to out my mom: she still likes frost nail polish. Ugh! I can’t get her to quit.

    • My mom’s favorite is a little frosty, too. We gotta get them into the proper decade! Haha. Why did you think this would be gross on you?? You have darker skin, probably a little darker than me judging from your pictures, so it should look good and make you look super-tan, too, right?

      • Oh, I am way darker than you miss ghost. 😛 Even with your baby oil tanning. hahaha I just don’t think green is really my color and that green is BRIGHT! It does look great on you, though.

        I’ve given up on changing my mom’s taste in make up and nail polish. I gave her tons of nail polishes last year and every time she comes to visit, her nails are always that frosty color so she probably doesn’t even use them. Oh well.

        • Hey hey hey!!! Im no ghost! :p I’ll have you know I’m pretty much the darkest of my white friends. Haha. Didn’t know you were all super dark, sheesh. 😉 Yeah I have pretty much given up on getting my mom new nail products too… she likes what she likes! 🙂

            Yeah, our moms seem to be stuck in another time period but hey, they are our moms…they can do whatever they want. hehehe

            • I’m pale at work tho.. only white person. Whomp whommmp… paleness for me. haha. Everyone’s like always trying to stay outta the sun and not get too dark and I’m in the sun like “I WANT TO be dark!!” They think I’m nuts, I’m pretty sure. Fun times! 😉
