Water Marble On Black- The Milky Way

Hey There Polished People!

Today I’m going to show you my second attempt at a water marble. I loooove how they look on other people, but the first one I tried (click here to see it) was a semi-fail. I had seen some awesome nails on Pinterest that looked kind of like an oil spill, but in a good way, and I thought maybe they’d done metallics over black. Well, I tried it and I clearly didn’t have the polishes right. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ It did turn out looking like the milky way though.. which I guess isn’t too bad. Have a peek:

Milky Way Marbled Nails:

Polishes Used:

  • Base coat- SH Hard As Nails.
  • Base color- FP Black Expressionism.
  • For water marble- CG Grapevine, Revlon Grape, Revlon Royal, ChG Harvest Moon, Borghese Euro Green, and Sinful Colors Out of This World.
  • NYC In A New York Minute fast drying top coat.

Let me know how you like these! They didn’t turn out how I wanted but that’s sorta the thing with water marbling… you kinda never know what you’re gonna get. Thanks for reading and Happy Polishing!

  1. I think this turned out great! I’ve yet to try water marbling, but it looks fun ๐Ÿ™‚ I really like the colors you used.

    • YOU haven’t tried it yet?? I can’t believe that. Get on it, I bet it’ll be awesome! Notice I want you to do it but you’ll see in tomorrow’s post that I’m most likely never doing another water marble. Haha. Thanks for the compliment… I just never like mine. Idk why. I really just think I can’t deal w the uncertainty and the asymmetry. Whateva… There’s plenty of other nail art out there. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Ack! I love this! I just bought a shirt that was purple and black yesterday. I love purple and black! I think I need to do a tape mani when the weather calms down.

    • That sounds like an excellent idea! ๐Ÿ™‚ Shimmery purple under black would look cool. I like purple and black too. It’s a good combo that’s dark but still cute. You could do your nails like this and match your outfit! Do you ever do that? For painting my nails every day you’d think I could match my clothes but I never do. I actually don’t even like to. Go figure! ;p

  3. This looks great! I have a fear of trying water marble for the sheer fact that its so darn messy! I really like how urs came out tho ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It is super messy. You have to remember to tape off or oil your fingers for sure and it’s still messy. You should try it at least once tho. It CAN turn out really pretty! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I really like the way this looks because it’s subtle and not so in your face. I like colorful water marbling but I don’t think it’s always appropriate.

    • Yeah I like how it looks but I don’t think it’s probably work appropriate if that’s what you mean. Luckily for me I do art classes and now I’ll be working outside all summer so I’m pretty much in the clear for whatever nails I come up with. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I suck at water marbling! I am thinking I should ease into nail art by doing an accent nail when I do my manis, so maybe I can manage two decent water-marbled nails! Hasn’t happened yet, though!

    • That’s funny I just suggested an accent nail for needle dragging!! I think water marbles suck. I would definitely stick to using them as an accent nail. It makes me shudder just thinking about water marbling. >:[
