Hunger Games Collection- Riveting and Harvest Moon

Good Morning Polished People!

This morning I have my third installment of Colours From The Capitol (Hunger Games) polishes. Today I have two of (if not THE two) polishes I was most excited about. Read on to see what I thought about them once I got them on 🙂

Riveting:

Color:

Riveting, from District 3/Technology, is an ultra-saturated red-orange with some gold shimmer. It’s such a pretty color, and I looooove orange so I’m really liking this color. I wanted to love this polish.

Formula/ Application:

The formula isn’t exactly thin but it’s sheer. I wore at least 4 coats here (medium thickness) and you can still see a little VNL (visible nail line) in the pictures above. Without direct light (flash) you can’t see the VNL as much, but it really annoys me that it’s even there at ALL after 4+ coats. Whyyy?!?!?!?! Orange polish, I love you so!! Why don’t you love me back?! I’ve heard from other people that they don’t have this problem, so be looking for a re-swatch of this color because I really want it to be that I just applied too thin of coats (unlikely) or it was something weird. If all else fails, I’ll put on some underwear with this polish and wear it out. I love this polish, I wanted the normal wonderful China Glaze formula but didn’t quite get it. 😦

Yes, Please! or No, Thank You:

This is an apprehensive Yes, Please. I really want this polish to be as awesome as I expected it to be, and like I said not everyone had the problem of it being sheer so maybe I need to shake it up really good, let it settle (don’t want air bubbles) and give it another go. I’ll keep you all posted.

Harvest Moon:

Color:

Harvest Moon is from District 9 which offers grain to the Capitol. I was really excited about this polish because I don’t have a good copper color, and I was not disappointed. This is a beautiful metallic copper polish with what may be a little gold shimmer. It’s hard to tell because it’s all mixed together to get a lovely sparkle-tastic copper finish. This is the most exciting depiction of ‘grain” I’ve ever seen! 😉

Formula/ Application:

Great. China Glaze rarely disappoints. This was opaque in 2 coats and dried shiny, but what you see above includes a coat of Seche Vite. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING looks better with a coat of Seche Vite 🙂

Yes, Please! or No, Thank You:

Heck yes!!! I love this polish and it fills a gap in my polish collection. 🙂 What is better than that? I can’t wait to be sporting some sparkly copper nails. It’s soooo pretty! If you’re only going to get a couple of these polishes, make this one of them.

How’d you like today’s polishes? Were these two that you were looking forward to as much as I was? (Alexandra… Where you at?!?! I know you were!! Haha.) If you have Riveting, did you find it to be sheer? Let me know what you think in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

  1. Woohoo!!! Got a shout out in the blog!! LOL I LOVE these colors. I actually went to Sally’s today (check your twitter!) and unfortunately they didn’t have all the colors I wanted but I was able to buy most of the ones I wanted and Riveting was one of them. My aunt used it first and it looks amazing in person, so shimmery and pretty. I really wanted Harvest Moon but I didn’t see it 😦 Imma check out another Sallys to see if they have it.

    • Yup, special shout out just for you! haha. I knew we’d talked about these colors before. 🙂 When I finally checked my Twitter after being sick all day I saw your new polishes.. AWESOME! I knew I saw Mahogany Magic and Riveting. That’s too bad they didn’t have Harvest Moon, maybe they’ll get some more in…? Or if you want it bad enough you might have to order it. They’re all on the website and you can use your coupons there too. Just fyi. 🙂 That’s fun you share you polishes with your aunt!! My mom is not all that into nail polish so it’s just kinda me. haha

  2. Oh no, I haven’t received my riveting yet, but I hope I don’t have the same problem. I really want to love this color too. When I have problems with sheer polishes I usually put on a natural color as a base coat, like a color you would use for a french mani just so it covers your nail line and to provide a base and then put like two coats of the sheer polish on top. A ridge filler would probably help too, pretty much anything with a light natural coat. I just hate having to layer a lot of coats on cause it gets so thick.

    • That’s an excellent tip. I might layer it over some light orange or a nude color depending on what I’m in the mood for. 🙂 Layering it over a gold foil might look good, too… so I’ll see. Not everyone had this problem so I’m really crossing my fingers that it was just me, and when I actually wear it (maybe tonight) I wont have that problem. I hate VNL!! I don’t mind thick polish, but what I do mind is wasting my lovely polishes by applying a TON to each nail! haha. Thanks for the tip, Frosso, and thanks for reading and commenting. 😀

  3. Is there any color that I’m not liking lately? I must have issues…I like and want every single polish I see. *sigh* I’m going to try to cut back but it’s so haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard. I can totally see the VNL on riveting and that would annoy me too. I wonder why I didn’t have that problem…or maybe I did and was so mesmerized by the orange sparkles that I didn’t even notice it.

    • Yes! VNL is sooo annoying!! I’m really hoping maybe more uniform coats will do the trick. Also, I shook it up really well yesterday so maybe dispersing the shimmer will help. (??)
GOOD LUCK trying to cut back… I’m not even trying till after April. I figure once summer rolls around I’ll be busier doing stuff outside (I can’t wait for swimming weather!!!) and wont have as much time to surf the net drooling over other people’s polishes! 🙂
