How To Remove Glitter Polish

I wish I could remember where I saw it and who said it, but on one of the nail blogs the writer said about glitter polish: “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.” And they were exactly right. Glitter polish is pretty, attention-getting, fun, sparkly, and a b**** to remove!!! I was teaching some kids about fact vs opinion (reading comprehension strategies) today and I have to say, that last statement would go under FACT!

There are 2 ways to remove glitter polish, the soak off method and the foil method. I used to soak mine off but now I use the foil method as it takes less time and is MUCH more gentle on my nails.

Foil Method:

  1. Soak a cotton ball in remover. Make sure it’s good and saturated, but not necessarily dripping.
  2. Place the wet cotton ball on your nail, use a strip of foil to secure it to the end of your finger.
  3. Repeat for all your fingers (I do one hand at a time usually, feel free to do both)

    All foiled up!

Raaawrrr!!! Watch out for Nicole Foily Fingers!! (like Edward Scissorhands.. get it? ha ha ha ;p)

  4. Wait about 7 minutes. I like to use this time to check out Twitter, Facebook, etc on my phone with my hand that is not all foiled up.
  5. Remove the foil and rub the nail gently to remove the glitter polish. See how much easier it comes off?! It’s a nail polish miracle!!! Do this for all your fingers.
  6. Re-use the foil and cotton balls for the other hand if you did one at a time, otherwise throw out your cotton balls and save your foil for next time. No need for new foil each time.
  7. Glitter up, gals!! πŸ˜‰

Soak Off Method:

Start with a covered/acetone proof work surface, and get out the necessary supplies: nail polish remover and cotton balls. Get plenty of cotton balls. Trust me, you'll need them.

This is the before picture. See how grown out my nails are just from about 4 days?? Yuck.

Fill up the nail polish remover cap halfway with nail polish remover, and soak your finger in it for about a minute.

Remove your finger and use a soaked cotton ball to wipe/rub off some of the polish. You'll probably only get SOME or MOST of the polish off so don't rub TOO hard.

Put your finger back in the remover, soak another minute then remove and rub/wipe again. You'll probably get all the polish off this time. If not, soak and wipe again until your nail looks clean like this.

Repeat on the rest of your fingers until they're all clean. PS: Remember to use a basecoat, and only one cotton ball per fingernail when removing red polish. That is how you can avoid stains on your nails like you can see on mine.

Nice and clean and ready for more glitter polish! πŸ™‚

With these easy tips and a bit of patience, there’s no reason to fear the glitter litter! You KNOW glitter polish is worth it! πŸ™‚
